Do you feel like you’ve got butterflies in your stomach keeping you up all night? While planning the wedding, it’s easy to keep moving, to keep your eyes on the big day. But then it sinks in. You’re getting married, and as exciting as that is, you might be wondering “what if”? What if you’re not ready? What if something goes wrong at the wedding despite all those months of preparation? We all know that little voice whispering doubts in our ears. It’s what we call the wedding jitters, and despite what you may have heard, it’s more common than you think.
Here are a few ways to stay mindful during those stressful times:
Grab a Pen and Paper
What are you afraid of? Take a moment to write down what’s on your mind, and you might just find that those fears seem a little silly. If not, that’s okay! All you need to do is dig a little deeper. For instance, maybe you’re worried that you’ll lose touch with your friends once you’re married. Knowing what makes you uneasy is the perfect way to ensure it never happens. Grab your phone and start a group chat to plan a girl’s night every month. Whatever it is, try writing out solutions for all your fears.
Talk to a Friend
Sometimes all you need is someone to let you talk it out. Maybe it’s stress from wedding planning, but what if it’s not? Reaching out to a friend can do wonders for taking the weight off your shoulders. As the people who know you best, they’re there to listen, be the voice of reason and help guide you to find your truth.
Take a Break
Wedding planning can make anyone feel a little stir-crazy. Take a step back and choose at least one night a week to press pause. No talk about the caterers, the guest list, or the venue – that can all wait. Take this time to listen to your body, unwind and enjoy a night off. If you can’t, I have three words for you, ask for help! Your family and friends are there to help make your wedding planning a little easier.
Bring Out the Candles
Did someone just say a romantic dinner for two? Just because you’re getting married doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself before the wedding! Rekindle the fire and remind each other what made you fall in love in the first place. Plan a weekend getaway, a spa massage, a night out in the town – whatever it is, if you’re together, that’s what matters.
